Dear fellow participants of Kyushu Debate Open (QDO) 2019,

Hoping you are all getting ready for Kyushu Debate Open 2019, one of biggest BP debate events in Japan! Today we have 6 things to announce: ①Confirmation of Eligibility for Novice Category, ②Access, ③Emergency Contact, ④Being Late for Registration, ⑤Tournament Schedule, and ⑥Convenience store near the venue.

 

① Confirmation of Eligibility for Novice Category
We would like to ensure who novice debaters are. Please make sure your eligibility by checking the name list of novice debaters we attached here. If we made some mistakes about this, please contact us as soon as possible.

②Access to the venue of Kyushu Debate Open 2019
*Kyushu Debate Open 2019 will be held at Kyushu University, ITO CAMPUS. To ensure a smooth participation in QDO 2019, please do come to Ito Campus. Kyushu University has four campuses in total and they are far away from each other.

④Being Late for Registration
-Registration ends at 9:20 on Day 1, and 9:15 on Day 2.

-No reasons for being late will be considered valid except the occurrence of force majeure events (earthquake, typhoon, bus/subway accident, etc.)

-In the case where one debater registers on time while the other does not, Kyushu Debate Open 2019 will consider it as a successful registration. However, the debater who is late for registration (9:20 on Day 1, and 9:15 on Day 2) can only join in the tournament from the next round after registration. Before that, his/her teammate will debate as a team on his/her own. The team will still stand a chance to break.

-In any case, please first contact the tournament directors listed above. We will do our best to help you with registration and participation in QDO 2019.

⑥ About convenience store near the venue
August 9th:
You can use the university co-op shop in the same building of the venue. It opens from 8:00a.m.to 8:00p.m. There is another convenience store (LOWSON) on campus if you walk 10-15minutes from the venue.

August 10th:
There is no shop/ convenience store available in east zone (where the QDO will be held). If you walk 10-15 minutes from the venue to center zone, you can find LAWSON. It opens from 8a.m.to 9p.m.

August 11th:
All shops/ convenience stores on campus are closed, so please buy your meals before you leave station.

2.1.2. Observation tour during the tournament
- You will receive lectures about the motion and have a chance to discuss the motion with experienced debaters and/or judges during the preparation time of each round

-You can listen to and join the judge discussion

-You will receive feedback of the debate you watched after the round


The observation tour on August 10th and August 11th includes the following contents.

・analysis of the motion by experienced debaters/judges during the preparation time

・watching debates

・listening to and/or joining judge discussion (You can choose if you join discussion)


*In case we have a few observers on August 11th (Day2), we reserve the right to cancel the observation tour on the second day.

2.2. Meals
We will provide tour participants with breakfast and lunch on both days, and break night dinner at the venue as well (free of charge, optional).

*The meals will only be provided to those who have reserved in the form. To avoid food waste as our commitment to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), please do not reserve more than what you need. Thank you for your understanding and kind cooperation.

We endeavor to meet all participants’ needs. Please notify us in advance in the form if you need halal meal or vegetarian meal.

2.3. Participation fee
Please pay the participation fee at the venue.

Participation fee for observers: 10,000 JPY per person

High school and under high school students: 5,000 JPY

*If you will not join the break night party, we will refund 1,000 JPY on the second day of QDO.

Great news for QDO 2019 debater-wannabes! Additional recruitment started! Please read through the notification and register via our Google forms.

Additional recruitment is based on a first come first serve basis, and will end once the number reaches the limitation. A notification email will be sent as soon as we received your registration. Once your registration has been confirmed, please pay the participation fee by bank transfer within a week.

The Committee of QDO collects personal information that can identify you mostly via Google Forms and Email if necessary. The personal information may include details such as your name, age, gender, contact information, affiliation, occupation, and photographs. Further by continuing to participate QDO 2019, the participant specifically agrees that the Committee of QDO collects, uses and holds your personal information for the purposes of: 1) team and debater registration; 2) accommodation reservation; 3) match-up in each debate round; and 4) questionnaire during and after QDO 2019 for analyzing our service, participant needs, and research related to debate education with a view of improving debate education in Japan and abroad and promoting QDO. The Committee of QDO will take all reasonable steps to prevent leakage or loss of your personal information.

2. Personal Security
The Committee of QDO is not responsible for any injury, illness, loss of/damage to personal belongings, or other unexpected problems of the participants in the tournament. The Committee of QDO will call the police (dial 110) or an ambulance (dial 119-the fire department) if necessary.

3. Eligibility for Participation 
The Committee of QDO reserves the right to expel, at our sole discretion, any participant from QDO 2019 for reasons including but not limited to: 1) breaking the rules of QDO 2019 (cheating such as using a mobile phone for external information source etc.); 2) breaking the law; 3) bullying or harassment of other participants; or 4) anti-social or inappropriate behavior towards other participants.

4. Liability 
All participants shall have a valid comprehensive liability insurance which covers liability for bodily injury, property damage and medical insurance, during the participant’s stay for participating QDO 2019. In no event will the Committee of QDO be liable for any injury, loss or damage including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss or damage, or any loss or damage whatsoever arising from loss of data or profit arising out of or in connection with participating QDO 2019.

5. Applicable Laws
All information and data, their usage and the registration to QDO or its use are exclusively subject to laws of Japan except for the provisions of international private law.
