Tournament Director

Miyu HImeno(TD, 2019)

Dear all,

I am Miyu Himeno, Tournament Director of the 6th annual Kyushu Debate Open 2019 (QDO  2019). As the most historical international British Parliamentary-style tournament in Japan, we have come very far from where we started. On behalf of everyone involved in QDO 2019, we would like to thank you for supporting our tournament. It is entirely thanks to everyone who have stood behind us through the years.

What are our purposes for QDO?

1.      To provide an opportunity for debaters to improve their logical thinking, English and communication abilities through competition. Through this tournament, we aim to communication between Japanese and overseas participants.

2.      To contribute to the globalization of not only Kyushu University but also the Kyushu area. QDO is the only parliamentary debate tournament held in the Kyushu area. We provide students who live in Kyushu with a place to try out their English abilities.

3.      Finally, to support SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), consisting of 17 goals and 169 targets in order to eradicate poverty and realize a sustainable world. One of the goals focuses on Education, therefore, our committee went to schools to teach junior and high school students to debate these target topics.

In order to achieve these three purposes, we will do our best this year too.

We successfully got the sponsorship from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan until last year. Furthermore, our sponsor team will strive to get more sponsorship not only from public agencies, but also private companies.

All participants are welcome to enjoy debate, communication, food, and sightseeing in Fukuoka, Kyushu.

We hope to see you this summer at Kyushu University, Ito campus.

Sincerely yours,

Miyu Himeno
